Book Fair

Twice a year, students and parents are invited to promote reading through our Scholastic Book Fairs. This program is managed through the media center and enhances the range of books available for students.

Birthday Books

Parents are invited to purchase a book for the Media Center as an honor to a child on his or her birthday. The child gets to read the book first and then it is placed into circulation with an permanent inscription honoring the student. New birthday books are introduced to the students during chapel announcements.

Reading Counts

SPLS students are encouraged to read independently to increase both skill and enjoyment. One avenue for increasing independent reading is monitoring student reading and reporting progress. Reading Counts, a service of Scholastic Books, allows to students to read books of their own choosing, taking brief comprehension exams, and earning points.

The books in the SPLS Media Center have been tagged for reading level and point values, making choosing the next great book to read a breeze.
